Develop New Skills at Summer Camp!

Info for Campers

At Falcon Camp, we don’t believe you should be stuck doing something you hate. Because of that, we’ve designed our schedule to have a lot of choices built in. Every day, you choose what activities you go to for each of the four activity periods—ART, H20, D/A, and WRC—as well as a few special “floating” activities.

For example, WRC (as we call it) gives you the choice of the following activities: Woodslore, Riding, and Crafts. Woodslore is a nature study activity that teaches you about firebuilding, plant identification, outdoor cooking, and a whole lot more. Riding is horseback riding and horsemanship, learning the parts of a horse, parts of a saddle, and how to tack up a horse. Crafts include tie dye, woodworking, watercolors…you name it!

Everyday, when your unit has WRC, you can choose which of those three activities to go to. You don’t sign up in advance, and you don’t have to go to the same one all week. Maybe on Monday you’ll try Woodslore because your best friend in the cabin says it’s great. Tuesday is your day to ride, so of course you are going to do that! And Wednesday is tie dye day, and of course you want to rock a new handmade t-shirt. The choice is yours!

Certified Staff Ready to Help You Learn

Our staff are trained to be great cabin counselors, as well as have certifications in whatever activity area(s) they work. They are ready to help you learn the parts of a canoe, how to knock an arrow, and what the difference between sugar and red maple is. You’ll work toward awards in each activity area that build on each other every year you come.

Other Things To Do

Young girls at summer camp

Weekend Activity

Each weekend, we run all-camp competitive activities between the two camp tribes. These are big games like Color Wars, Olympics, Capture the Flag, and others, often with themes and costumes, a dance and campfire, to discover who is the best!

Evening Activity

After dinner each day, we finish with a block of time called Evening Activity. It’s an opportunity for each unit to plan their own fun, which range from Brain, Skills, Brawn in the Woodslore area, to a canoe hike to the dam, to Falcon Ball on the softball field.

Extra Riding

Do you want to ride as much as possible during your time at camp? Extra horseback riding and horsemanship is available at an additional fee of $100 per two weeks for experienced riders. This is in addition to regular riding and includes 6-8 hours of mounted lessons and groundwork.

Horsecare

Can’t get enough horses during your WRC periods? Head down before breakfast to see what it really means to own a horse! During this time, campers will bring the horses in from the corral, groom them, and feed them breakfast. This is an optional activity- sleep is a perfectly acceptable alternative!

Creative Arts

A few times a week, you’ll have the opportunity to go to Creative Arts. This is a multimedia activity period with projects based in photography, film, podcasts, and more. Some examples include a macro photography nature exhibit, a film of a Day in the Life of a Falcon Camper, or a newspaper. At the end of the session, you’ll see a presentation of your project, and get to take it home.

Mountain Biking

During evening activities and half-day activities, you might see Mountain Biking on a list of options. Our Senior campers are able to join in this exciting activity, where you grab a bike, and head out where the path may lead! Sometimes we follow the trails through the woods, other times we may explore the Jay’s side of the farm, but no matter what we’re having fun!

Music

A couple times a week, we will announce a Music period. There are two music tracks, for beginners and for experienced musicians. Both meet in the formation area, and both are about hanging out and having fun with instruments and singing! Sometimes we’ll walk around and serenade other activities, sometimes we’ll write original songs, sometimes we’ll work on perfecting something to perform at campfire. But no matter what, we’ll have a good time with some guitars and songs!

Half-Day Activities

Once a week, we take an afternoon off from our normal schedule to do half day activities. In some cases, they may sound similar, just longer. For example, there’s usually a trail ride on horses, canoe hike, and regular hike. For all of these, going for a longer time gives the opportunity to go somewhere farther, and work on different skills such as endurance. We might choose a longer craft to do. There might also be some unusual activities like Mountain Biking, Fishing, or even Rocketry! You never know what you’ll get!
