Summer News
Even as it
snows tonight in Cleveland, we are busy getting ready for summer. We have a number of new activities planned and are really looking forward to the beginning of camp
for 2009. Tali has some wonderful new plans for drama, Alison and Nici are redesigning our crafts program and we plan to offer a lifeguard course for our oldest
campers. The nature program welcomes the return of Jenn Mizen from a year of studying in the jungles of Thailand and we are excited about a new creative arts addition
to our program. In creative arts, campers will be able to post articles, photos and some video on our website, help put together interviews with campers, staff and
parents to talk about Falcon, do some podcasts, etc. as we enter into a more current version of the technology age while still maintaining our outdoor rustic
traditions. Jenn Mizen and Joe Malpass (also returning as staff after a year’s absence) are working on a new set of themed weekend activities. There will be a good
combination of fresh thinking mixed into the traditional program you know and like so well. From our newest camper to our older experienced campers wondering about
returning, there will be a lot of exciting things to do this summer! |

From the
Director
At Falcon, tradition is important to us as each year we continue to
make use of successful time tested programs and teaching methods. Our traditions and hard work have given us an excellent reputation across the Midwest. Each summer
is a special and different experience and we are always finding ways to make things better, but it is our traditions that help create the comfortable environment
where our campers blossom and grow in so many impressive ways. Falcon is moving into the new technology world and I am so impressed with reading comments on our
Falcon group Facebook page. Alumni from the past fifty years have joined to talk about how camp has played a part in their lives and you can see the fun in their
words as they reconnect with old camp friends. What a wonderful technology tool to be able to use.
What may be most important at Falcon is that camp is personal.
Technology can’t replace the learning involved in the face to face process of making friends, stepping outside yourself to try new things, the role modeling and
bonding that takes place between camper and counselor and the sense of belonging to a true group of friends. These are the tools of real life and an integral part of
Falcon. We hope you will join us this summer. See you soon,
Dave
