The Counselor in Training Program (CIT)
Learn Leadership and Life Skills
The CIT Program is designed to teach young people how to become more responsible for their own learning through a process of guided discovery. We meet regularly to discuss and teach leadership skills. CITs utilize these skills to develop and execute strategies for real situations of everyday resident camp life. These life-long skills and hands-on experiences help our potential future counselors prepare for effective leadership and nurturing of children. CITs begin to learn to make responsible choices independently.
Falcon firmly believes the immersion of a CIT into the staff role is crucial to learn the goals of the program. This immersion is done under the watchful eye and support of older staff and administration. CITs take a supporting role in cabins and activity areas. The role allows them to observe and take on challenges in small, manageable doses.
This should be a very interesting educational opportunity as well as lots of fun. Being a CIT is a demanding training experience. Plan on working hard, having fun, and learning everything you can. It requires a great deal of patience, willingness to learn, cooperation with your co-workers, and the ability to accept responsibilities for your own actions.
With all of this hard work comes great reward. In the process of learning to be a quality summer camp counselor, Falcon believes each participant will walk away with a stronger work ethic and self-awareness to be more prepared for the milestones ahead such as college, a career or family.
The cost of the CIT program is 50% of the regular camper tuition. Early registration discounts do not apply.
